St Kevin's Boys Club Under 15's began their National Under 15 Airtricity League campaign this afternoon away to UCD in Marley Park.
Both teams started nervously in blustery conditions but the better chances were falling to SKB and it was no surprise that they took the lead in the 16th minute when Sandy Chhantyal (pictured) brought the ball under control perfectly just outside the box and rifled home from eighteen yards. Two minutes later it was 2-0 when Paddy Moore made some room for himself in a crowded penalty area and shot home from ten yards, at this stage of the game SKB were in complete control and really should have added to the scoreline with Sean McEvoy and Sandy Chhantyal having the best chances. As the first half drew to a close UCD came more into the game but it remained 2-0 at the break.
The second half began in much the same vein with UCD pushing forward but not really causing any serious problems for the SKB defence and when substitute Dwayne McCourt made it 3-0 with fifteen minutes to go it looked as the game and the three points were in the bag but credit to UCD they kept coming forward and pulled one back and a minute after that it was 3-2 - both goals coming from attacks down their left side. For the final eight minutes UCD piled on the pressure but the SKB defence held out to record what was an historic win for the Club.
Thanks to all who made the journey to support the team.
The second game in the series takes place next Sunday at Shanowen Road at 1.30pm when Athlone Town are the visitors.
