Defeat was a bitter pill for our Under 15 DDSL Premier side to take when they went down 2-4 in a penalty shoot-out in the final of the SFAI Evans Cup to St Josephs Boys at Jackson Park.
Following a nervous opening ten minutes into the face of a strong breeze they began to control the game and could have already been ahead before Jack Ryan opened the scoring from the penalty spot following a foul on Jordan Pitshou. Further chances were created and only last gasp defending and a goal line clearance with the 'keeper beaten kept the score at 1-0 entering the final ten minutes of the first half but the concession of two goals in that time plus another from a free kick early in the second half turned the game around totally and misery was compounded when captain Luke Nolan was sent off following a rash challange.
3-1 down and down to ten men they rallied and with Jordan Pitshou and Lido Letefa causing problems every time they got on the ball they pulled it back to 3-3 with ten minutes remaining - Jordan Pitshou getting both goals. Extra time didnt look like producing a winner until with three minutes remaining in the second period when Dylan Reilly headed home from ten yards when a free kick was only partially cleared, the referee awarded the goal but the linsman for some reason only known to himself overuled his decision.
Penalties ultimately decided the issue but full marks to the entire squad for a battling performance that merited a better outcome.
