SKB ACADEMY CUP FIXTURES / RESULTS 2014
Both semi finals in this years Academy Cup produced major shocks with St Kevin's Boys defeating a much fancied Arsenal side who had scored 8 goals en route to the semi final with a Deiric Hyland goal a minute before half time. In fact the home side were the better side in the second half and could have added at least one more goal en route to the Club's first Academy Cup final where they will meet Ajax who defeated Real Madrid 1-0 courtesy of a hotly disputed penalty fifteen minutes into the second half from Samir Ben Sallim. The final kicks off tomorrow at 1.30pm 3rd and 4th place will be contested by Real Madrid and Arsenal who most people would have been expecting to contest the final.
Brilliant sunshine large crowds and a blitz of goals got the 2014 Academy Cup off to a great start yesterday morning at Shanowen Road with the host Club sharing eight goals in a cracking opening game against West Bromwich Albion. The visitors went two up inside the opening ten minutes before the hosts pulled a goal back but straight from the kick-off the visitors restored their two goal advantage. .West Brom led 4-3 heading into injury time but Ray O'Sullivan equalised in stoppage time to keep the group interesting going into the second stage of games. Last years winners Celtic were no match for Ajax in the second game going down 4-1. The much awaited first appearance of Real Madrid did not disappoint as they scored inside the first minute against West Brom and eventually ran out 2-0 winners. In the final game on Friday Arsenal showed their determination to re-capture the trophy when they pushed aside a much changed Ajax side from the side that defeated Celtic earlier in the day - Arsenal winning 3-1.
Arsenal continued on Saturday where they had left off on Friday evening with a powerful and very convincing 5-0 win over Celtic which put them top of the group and a place in the semi final against the runners up from group 1 which turned out to be St Kevin's Boys . Real Madrid ensured that they would top group 1 and play Ajax in the semi final after a single goal win against host club St Kevin's Boys in what was a close fought game and by keeping Real Madrid to a single goal the host club ensured a place in the semi final against Arsenal.

Shanowen Road home of St Kevin’s Boys Club will be the venue for our Academy Cup Tournament from the 18th – 20th April. This will be our 6th year to organize this event which was inaugurated in 2009 as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations.
It has in that short space of time become one of the elite European tournaments for boys at Under 13 level.
This year we are delighted that such prestigious world class clubs such as Real Madrid and Ajax have accepted our invitation to take part along with current holders Celtic F C and former two time winners Arsenal F C, the line- up is completed by last year’s runners up West Bromwich Albion and St Kevin’s Boys Club.
This strong line-up of world class teams is sure to provide a great spectacle of football and it should ensure that large crowds converge on the venue over the three days of play which starts on Good Friday morning at 10.30am when the tournament gets under way with the host Club facing up to West Bromwich Albion, the second game on the Friday morning sees current holders Celtic face Ajax. The Friday afternoon games should certainly test the grounds capacity when West Bromwich Albion again are in action this time against Real Madrid and Ajax play their second game against Arsenal.
The early games on Saturday morning see Arsenal play Celtic at 10.30am and Real Madrid facing St Kevin’s Boys at 12 noon.
The semi- finals will take place on Saturday evening at 4.30 & 6.00pm and the action rounds off on Sunday with the play offs for 5th & 6th place at 10.00am and 3rd & 4th place at 12 noon and the final at 1.30pm.
